About myself
I was born on September 30, 1971 and live and work in Antwerp.
From 1983 to 1989 I attended drawing classes at the nearby Academy
for Visual Arts of Brasschaat. It was during this period that
I began using oil paint, which would eventually become my favorite medium because of its characteristic texture
and its great flexibility.
After graduating with a degree in translation (French, Spanish, Dutch) I started working as a desktop publisher and freelance illustrator,
but the passion for oil painting never let go of me. In 2004 I decided to show my paintings to the public, and since 2006 I'm showing and selling
my work at the H&D Gallery in Antwerp.
About my work
The primary goal
of my paintings is to search for the underlying beauty of
contemporary urban environments, particulary in places where this beauty
is not generally expected or aknowledged: ordinary streets,
shops, fastfood restaurants, train stations, industrial zones ...
Obviously, architecture plays an important role in this respect, but also the people who live
in the city and give it its sense, and cars, that have in a way become an extension of man.
